Zygomatic Implants

At Dental Depot, we are proud to offer a new type of dental implant.

It’s understandable if you haven’t come across the term “zygomatic implant therapy” before. That’s precisely why we’ve created this resource for you. Our aim is to ensure you are well-informed about every dental implant option available to you.

Typically, when introduced to this groundbreaking implant procedure, the majority of our patients have three primary queries.

What are Zygomatic Implants?

Zygomatic implants, stemming from a Swedish surgical method, offer a solution for patients who have previously experienced significant bone and gum loss. Traditionally, such patients would need bone graft surgery before considering an implant, leading to additional time, costs, and potential surgical complications. However, zygomatic implants bypass these challenges, enabling implantation in a single procedure.

These implants are lengthier than conventional ones, allowing us to secure them in two locations: the upper jawbone or the zygoma bone (cheekbone). This flexibility means that upper jawbone loss is less concerning, as we have diverse avenues to facilitate osseointegration.

Every Dental Depot location provides nitrous oxide. Consult your dental team to determine if nitrous oxide is suitable for your needs.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for a Zygoma Implant?

We typically suggest a zygoma implant under three specific circumstances:

  1. You’ve lost the majority, if not all, of your teeth. In such situations, extensive jawbone deterioration is common, posing challenges for standard implants.
  2. You suffer from an advanced periodontal disease, resulting in significant bone and gum loss, rendering conventional implants ineffective.
  3. You need implants in the upper jawbone. This area can be problematic even for patients in good health. Proximity to the sinuses and the inherently weaker nature of the upper jaw compared to the lower one can complicate matters. Zygomatic implants address this by anchoring to the cheekbone when required.

What Can I Expect When I Receive a Zygomatic Implant Procedure?

Our process begins with a 3D CBCT scan, providing us a precise digital representation of your jawbones, gums, and any remaining teeth. This crucial insight into your bone condition aids us in devising an optimal implant placement strategy. Due to the CBCT scan, surgeries are less intrusive; we don’t need to make incisions in your gums to inspect the jawbone. This method not only facilitates quicker recoveries but also significantly reduces post-surgery discomfort.

Our “Revitalize” approach enables patients to experience our mild sedation dentistry techniques during the procedure, ensuring you remain relaxed and at ease throughout. We meticulously adhere to your personalized implant placement blueprint. Depending on individual requirements, we might also incorporate a combination of zygomatic and conventional implants.

Like traditional implants, the zygomatic implant process consists of two stages. Initially, the implant is positioned. Following that, the crown is affixed. After allowing a span of four to six months for osseointegration to occur, we will proceed with the crown placement.
